Surfers and non-surfers are welcome, we have an excellent overall fitness/yoga set up, all the modalities, and our proximity to town makes our accommodations ideal. We primarily attract adult men and their families who are focused on their surfing health and cultural experience over the young surf retreat crowd of one week party/surfer. And the women or youths who visit are generally serious about their surfing and used to hanging out with surfer guys. Training together, the power of the group unleashes all of our potential. You stay on your own independent ocean view apartment on our family property and surfing training facility in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua with 300 days a year of offshore conditions, culture, music, and a friendly local community.
Beginner through Pro, this is the place.
Location & amenities are optimal for non-surfing family members too.

It starts with a "Buena Vibra" Good Vibe Culture, and our surfing lifestyle. A retired professional athlete developing an individual intensive surf fitness regime, then sharing this with locals. The locals are professional surf coaches, the surf team, the juniors going national, and youths too. Surf Training Lab (STL) has evolved into a cooperative of teaching, and learning where all of our core group shares their knowledge daily and we do some absolutely incredible trainings ALL Weekdays. We keep adding groups and times to support our volunteer efforts to raise up Nicaraguan Surfing together. We work together and push each other train our strength, flexibility, stamina, mobility, breathwork, meditation, balance board, carver board, heat, ice, creativity, playing music, yoga, etc.
When you stay with us, you support these programs. You can watch all the workouts, and join in in the correct level classes. On site it is a cooperative of sharing on our common paths. You will meet some of the BEST Surf coaches in Nicaragua and be able to arrange coaching, lessons, and tutorials with them. Again supporting the Locals.
Surf Coaches and Pro Surfers from around the world are welcome to come and join our circle alone, or with their students.
Optimal health & fitness is a must to aid a surfer, and essential to surfing well at any age. Young competitors through aging surfers all benefit from Surf Training Labs programs.
Our Surf Lab is a childhood dream of a living situation set up to promote and remind anyone staying here of this mission.

As a 54-year-old surfer who started surfing at age 10, my resume includes degrees in exercise physiology/biomechanics and a lifetime of coaching. At age 11 I was training horses and giving riding lessons to adults and children (developing my skills to see body positions and verbalize corrections). Later I was a sponsored elite cyclist, runner, yoga instructor, and enveloped many other sports in which I competed and coached. I worked in physical rehab with athletes and lay persons; and as an athlete and later career firefighter I had my share of personal injuries which I rehabilitated myself. As I watched professional surfing evolve, I noticed more and more top surfers were prioritizing their surfing fitness by integrating the training modalities which I had been using for years. I combined many resources to create a surfing training routine to surf at my optimal level with guys half my age. My formal studies and personal experience of feeling sports movements in my own body, is supported by a natural aptitude for understanding the bodies physiologist and biomechanics and communicating that position and feel to others. Returning to my roots of coaching, I enjoy training others and sharing these techniques. I enjoy watching those I coach get Stoked. I enjoy building friendships and a community of students and participants who become friends and return often.

Supporting our professional local partners eliminated the frustration of locals when a surf school dumps two dozen students at one location to converge on a wave. It keeps the vibe cool, and your wave-count up. They provide local knowledge and energy in the water.
